This may come as a surprise, but the health benefits of sheepskin rivals that of modern medicine! Do you suffer from sores, trouble sleeping, a compromised immune system, or digestive issues? As it turns out, sleeping on sheepskin helps to cure all of these conditions and others.

We are entering an era where people are actively seeking holistic and naturopathic remedies to cure them rather than modern “medicine”.

As I always say – our beautiful Mother Earth provides everything we need!

As opposed to a combination of chemicals referred to as “medicine”, natural remedies (such as sleeping on sheepskin) cures the cause within your body – not only the symptoms you are experiencing.

sleeping on sheepskin: why we love it

Sheepskin is the soft, fluffy wool from the hide of a sheep. Not only does it feel incredibly luxurious, but it is proven to promote natural healing within the body.

Until a few months ago, I wasn’t aware of the benefits of sheepskin for babies or that it was used for healing purposes at all. Another natural remedy not passed along. SIGH.

So sheepskin has numerous health benefits, but I wanted one to help my daughter’s gut microbiome, support her immune system, and help her to sleep through the night.

She was 2 months old and suffering from colic, gas pain, acid reflux, and had developed a cold and a sinus infection. All within 2 months of entering this world! She was constantly in pain and neither she nor I were sleeping at night.

After countless hours researching how to help her acid reflux and colic pains, my husband and I came across a video referencing babies sleeping on sheepskin.

The video mentione that sheepskin creates a healthy gut microbiome, and I was sold. Any other benefits were simply an added bonus at that point.

If there was a chance it could help her to no longer scream for hours every day, I was buying it.

benefits of sleeping on sheepskin:

Sheepskin naturally repels bacteria on wounds, increases blood flow, and reduces swelling.

It also supports pressure points and sores that causes pain in those who are disabled or bed-ridden.

Wool naturally calms the body’s nervous system and helps you to fall asleep more easily.

When lying on wool, your body weight is also evenly distributed, which contributes to a longer, deeper sleep.

3. strengthens the immune system

Sheepskin has microbes that encourage a healthy immune system. Even better – dust mites can’t survive in the fibers of wool! This makes sheepskin an excellent choice for those who suffer from asthma or allergies.

Isn’t Mother Earth just amazing?

4. regulates body temperature

Contrary to what you’ve heard, wool does not make you hot! Wool helps to regulate your body temperature naturally by drawing moisture away from the body.

The fur has hollow fibers that allows air to move freely, so it keeps you cool in warmer months. And during colder months, the wool retains heat and absorbs moisture which keeps you nice and comfortable.

How sleeping on sheepskin worked for us

my honest review

Overall: this was the best purchase I’ve ever made.

All of my daughter’s problems disappeared within a week or two after using it. Her colicly cries stopped. No more screaming for hours after dinnertime.

Her sinus infection cleared up quickly, and months later, she still hasn’t gotten sick again.

She even sleeps longer consecutive hours overnight and naps well on the sheepskin, too! Before using it, she would contact sleep only. Now she loves to grab onto the sides of the sheepskin fur if she wakes, and it helps to soothe her back to sleep.

where to buy authentic sheepskin?

Depending on your location, you may have luck finding sheepskin from a local farmer. However, living in Chicago, I had to opt for finding an authentic sheepskin online. Which was challenging! So many were made in China. (RED FLAG!)

Eventually, I came accross a seller on Etsy located in Ukraine – TextileMagicStore.

Shipping took just under 2 weeks and arrived in pristine condition. My favorite thing about it was the smell – it smelled like a farm animal. I loved it!

caring for sheepskin

Since it naturally repels bacteria and dust mites, all you really have to worry about are stains and debri.

Give it a good shake to remove and debri and you’re good to go.

For stains, spot clean with a mild, wool detergent. Or have it professionally dry-cleaned.

When sleeping on skeepskin, one thing to take note of is not to combine linen with wool. It is said that the two frequencies will cancel each other out, thus eliminating the health benefits either one offers.

The fabrics you wear also contribute greatly to your health. Synthetics fibers, such as polyester and spandex, are dangerous. While it is more affordable and readily available, it actually causes the body to become more susceptible to illness.

Finding quality, natural fiber clothing at reasonable prices can be challenging, but try shopping these stores for more affordable options!
