Contrary to what many believe, essential oils are 100% effective at healing the body, providing energy, happiness, confidence, etc.! Here is a super simple how to guide for making a DIY diffuser for essential oils!

Did you know our sense of smell is linked directly to the emotional center of our brain? Smell goes directly to the limbic system – where emotion and memory are stored together.

This is what allows smells to trigger powerful emotional memories, often making us feel nostalgic, in a way that other senses don’t. Smell is truly a powerful thing! With that being said, why not create some happy, scented memories today!

stop and smell and roses

Literally! Take a moment to breathe. Bring your focus to the scents that are all around you. I’ll bet you don’t even pay attention sometimes. We often overlook such a simple thing.

Too often we focus on the bad smells – car fumes, pet odors, dirty laundry – but what about the good smells?

Smell is one of the most influential senses when it comes to our mood. Because of the strong connection to our emotions, different scents can do amazing things for our minds and bodies! That includes a boost in energy, improved sleep, and feeling safe and cozy.

For me – the air in Spring, honeysuckles, play food from the 90’s, a campfire, old books, chocolate cream pie, blueberry muffins, the ocean – all of these smells make me feel so happy, loved, and safe.

Did you know having smells you love in your bedroom reduces nightmares?

make sure essential oils are safe for you

All essential oils have a purpose. Not all of them work for every person. I know I sound like a commercial, but if you have any of the following talk with your doctor before using essential oils:

  • Pregnant or Breastfeeding
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Respiratory Conditions
  • Seizures
  • Taking Certain Medications

How to make a DIY diffuser for essential oils

Supplies you'll need:

What to do:

  1. Add the essential oil and grapeseed oil to your vase or bottle
  2. Mix well
  3. Place the rattan diffuser reeds in the bottle.

Now here comes the hardest part – waiting.

The scent has to make its way up the reeds and may take a few hours before you can begin to smell anything. Place your DIY diffuser anywhere you want – your work station, bedroom, beside you in the bath – anywhere!

Remember to turn the reeds around every 2-3 days so that a stronger scent is released.

use essential oils that awaken your senses

I cannot stress this enough. Do not use a mixture of essential oils that give off a scent you dislike or give you a headache. Let’s take jasmine for example. Jasmine is helpful for boosting confidence and optimistic thinking, but it may not be one that pleases your nostrils.

If the scent of jasmine is too overwhelming for you, instead try sweet orange or bergamot!

What brand of essential oils is best?

What brand of essential oils you choose for your DIY diffuser is very important. You want to use one that is pure and safe. Not all essential oils for sale are good quality either. These are my top 3 favorite brands:

DIY diffuser for essential oils

A DIY diffuser isn’t the only way to enjoy the scent or healing benefits of essential oils. You can also add 10-15 drops of your favorite oil to a warm bath. Why not upgrade the experience by adding in magnesium flakes?

Magnesium bath soaks have been a game-changer for everyone in my home! They add minerals and nutrients back into the water.
