Creating handmade Christmas ornaments is a fun family activity and is much more meaningful than store bought ornaments. If you make Christmas ornaments using ornage slices, not only do they add a beautiful pop of color to your tree, but it is also easily compostable once the holiday season has passed.Â
Personally, I prefer a more natural Christmas theme in the home. I love the fresh greenery and warmth that real plants bring inside the home. However, this is a fun holiday activity for children and adults of all ages!
MAKE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS USING ORANGE SLICES
MATERIALS:
- Oranges (any variety)
- Knife
- Jute twine or strong cotton stringÂ
- Paper towels
- A bobby pin or felting needle (to thread the twine through the orange slice)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 250° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- Using a sharp knife, thinly slice the orange into 1/4 – 1/8 inch slices
- Place the orange slices on a paper towel and gently pat both sides to dry
- Â Place the orange slices on the parchment lined baking sheet
- Bake for 2 hours or until they begin to brown
- Cool completely
- Using the bobby pin (or felting needle), thread the twine through the closed end and pull the bobby pin through the top of the orange slice to create a hole. Tie the twine to make a loop and hang on the Christmas tree!
Alternatively, you can also use lemons, limes, and grapefruit to make lovely ornaments as well!Â
